Evening Hours - Book Review

This book gave me a refreshing and welcome break from the vampire novels I've been reading. I love fantasy books, but every now and then I like a good romance book. I may take a longer break from the fantasy reading and review a few more novels in different genre. Here's the summary of what it's about and my review:

Summary:

Kaylee was involved in a tragic car accident that left her severely scarred, physically and emotionally. Later in life she owns a modeling agency that is very successful and she is very dedicated to her work. She had put the idea of having a husband and family out of her mind when handsome and charming Cutler McFarland shows up. He is a district attorney and sweeps Kaylee off her feet when she least expects it. Kaylee's dad has plans for a bright future for his only daughter and will go to great extents to make sure her dreams come true. He even resorts to blackmail. Kaylee is caught between her love for the two men who matter most in her life - what's a girl to do?

Review: Shining Star!

I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed the story and the dynamic between Kaylee and Cutler is outstanding. It is an easy to read novel that gives the reader more than one point of view as they get to know the characters better.

The Dead Girls' Dance - Book Review

The Dead Girls' Dance - Book Review

This book is book 2 of The Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine. The order of the series is as fallows: Glass Houses, The Dead Girls' Dance, Midnight Alley, Feast of Fools, Lord of Misrule, Carpe Corpus, Fade Out, Kiss of Death, Ghost Town. The next ones are Bite Club (coming out in May 3rd, 2011) and Last Breath (Coming out November 1st, 2011). Here is a summary and my review:

Summary:

Claire Danvers is a smart college student who shares a house with her boyfriend, Shane (good looking football type) , and the musician sensitive type guy, Michael, and his goth girlfriend Eve. Morganville is crawling with vampires and Claire and her friends constantly have to watch each others backs. Luckily, they are protected by Amilie (also a vamp), the founder of the town. Shane's Dad comes into town with his biker crew to slay some vampires and get revenge for the death of his daughter. Claire is constantly having to watch out for queen bee and diva, Monica, and her two sidekicks because they are always finding ways to torture her. Between the menacing vampires in the town, Shane's Dad, and Monica, Claire has her hands full when Shane's Dad suddenly decides to literally light up the town.

Review: Liked it!

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. It has alot of twists and turns and always keeps the reader wondering what is coming next. This dark, but well written novel is one of the best vampire young adult series I have read.

Kiss of Crimson - Book Review

Kiss of Crimson - (Midnight Breed Series) - Book Review

This book is book 2 of The Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian. Here are the books in order for the series: Kiss of Midnight, Kiss of Crimson, Midnight Awakening, Midnight Rising, Veil of Midnight, Ashes of Midnight, Shades of Midnight, Taken by Midnight, Deeper than Midnight. I will not be able to review the first book, Kiss of Midnight, for a while because the library for some reason doesn't have that book to check out. Kiss of Crimson, however, is an action filled romance with detailed intimate scenes and much to my dismay, foul language. I try to look beyond the graphic nature of the book, however, to give you my honest and uncensored opinion so you will know if it's something that would interest you or not. I enjoy reading Young Adult novels and could do without the foul language and graphic intimate details! I try to keep an open mind, and without any further ramblings, here's the summary and my review:

Summary:

Veterinarian Tess Culver is dedicated to her job and works long hours at the clinic. One night she is surprised to see a man bleeding to death in her clinic and she comes to his aid. Dante is a warrior, part of the Breed, part human and part vampire he needs blood to live. In his desperation to live, he feeds off of Tess to save his life. Tess doesn't know that she's a breedmate (human woman meant to be a mate for one of the Breed). Because Dante drinks from Tess, and Tess is a breedmate, he has forged an unbreakable blood bond with her. Dante has enough going on with being a warrior because he has to fight off rogue vampires (vampires who viscously attack humans and kill them) to save the Breed from becoming extinct. Dante and Tess both cannot deny the bond that links them. They save one anothers life in an action filled change of events throughout this book. They have to chose to either accept the bond or deny the bond - but what will it be?

Review: Less Than Stellar

I give this book a 3 out of 5 star rating because of its foul language, detailed intimate scenes, and graphic violence. I think that Lara Adrian could have told the story without writing such foul language, without such graphic detail in the intimate scenes, and she could have written an action book without so much violent details and still made it a good story. Besides that, I enjoyed the book. I have to admit it was hard for me to read and I had to read it sometimes in small doses, but the story line is rather romantic and heartfelt. She did a good job capturing the true love and attraction (emphasis on attraction) of her two main characters.

Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy) - Book Review

Shadow Kiss is a great book that shows the reader what true friendship and true love really is. It is part of the Vampire Academy Series by Rachelle Mead. The Series order is as fallows: Vampire Academy, Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, Spirit Bound, and Last Sacrifice. It is an addictive series because it lets you into Rose's head (she's the main character). If you like to read different series of books and don't know what order they go in, there is a website - http://www.fictfact.com/ - that tells you what series the book is part of and you can keep up with what you want to read and what you've already read. It's a pretty cool site.

Summary

Rose Hathaway is a half-vampire with the ability to see in the mind of her best friend, Lissa. Rose is also expecting to guard her full vampire friend, Lissa, and protect her from the evil vampires called Strigoi. Rose knows that it is forbidden to fall in love with another guardian, but despite her efforts she gets closer than she thought she would to Dimitri, her trainer. In Shadow Kiss Rose's life changes forever when Dimitri has to fight off the Strigoi after they attack the School that Rose goes to. Rose has to choose between love, life, and the two people who matter the most to her.

Review: I LOVED IT!

This book has everything - a little mystery, action, and romance! Rose is a stubborn but loveable character that makes you want to root for her no matter what she's up against. The attraction between her and Dimitri is undeniable and inevitable. She shows how loyal she really is to her best friend and how close their bond really is when she has to protect Lissa's boyfriend, Christian, from Strigoi. Really enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it!

Light Of The Moon - Book Review

I have been doing ALOT of reading lately, so you'll probably see alot more book reviews on this site in the near future. I am open to read all genres of books. I generally lean toward fantasy books (mostly vampires) with a mixture of romance, mystery, and action. I have just read Light Of The Moon by Luanne Rice. It is a good story with a little bit of romance (no vamps). I wouldn't say that it is a romance novel because it has just enough romance to let you know that the characters are in love and that's about it. Good book for PG-rated readers. Has a few curse words here and there, but nothing vulgar. With that being said, this is a short summary of what the book is about and what I think about it:

Summary:

Susannah takes a flight from her hometown in Connecticut to the French Camargue to see its beautiful white horses and to see a famous saint. While she's there researching, she meets a family. In this family is a little girl, Suri, whose mother left her when she was only eight. She is deeply traumatized by the incident. She is very possessive of her Father and runs off every woman that her Father gets serious with. Grey, the Father, is a handsome 42 year old man who runs a ranch and gives tours to tourists in the area. Susannah falls in love with Grey and bonds with Suri. She falls into exotic culture of gypsys and learns more about Grey's former love and Suri's Mother, Maria. Susannah goes the distance for love doing whatever it takes for her and Grey to be together.

Review: AN OVERALL GOOD READ

I give this book a 3 out of 5 stars. It was a great story that was well thought trough, but I think it could have used a little more romance. As I read the story I felt as though I really knew the characters because the author takes time to paint a picture of well-rounded characters. Their are a few curse words, but not enough to bring my rating down on this review.
