The Kozlowski Family Blog

TO HOME SCHOOL OR NOT TO HOME SCHOOL?

To kick off my new blog, I have decided to post my thoughts on home schooling vs. public schooling. Zoey is only 6 months old, but yet I am thinking about her education. I have to say that in the past few years I have seen children who are home schooled and it is amazing to me how articulate and well behaved they are! It is no mystery to me that the parents are behind all this progress. Until I had Zoey a few months ago I literally had no clue as to how many responsibilites come with being an effective parent. I also have MUCH to learn! This is why I have concerns about home school. Will I have the resources I need to keep Zoey socialized? Do I have the discipline, myself, to organize a school day much less a school year?! What are the cost differences in the cost of public vs. home school resources and activities? --- The list goes on and on.... I attended public school and I remember how I wanted to spend more time with my Mom (especially when I was in elementary school.) I also remembering how I had to be something or someone different for every teacher because they never had the same "techniques". Public school does not necessarily mean a child will be more socialized. I was an introvert. What makes a child more socialized is how parents teach them to react and respond to situations either in a healthy or unhealthy manner. Also, when factoring in the costs of public school, I have to think about things like lunch money, school materials, school clothes, and extra cirricular activities. Hmmmm.... just thinking... lunch $ for one lunch $1/day, 5 days a week = $20/mo. = $240/yr.
school materials approx. $150/yr. --- school clothes approx. $300/yr.----extra cirrc. activities approx. $500/yr. ----- Total cost= $1190.00 ( not to mention that I have to pay for school tax.)
I am sure my #'s are off on some things, but this is just what my brain is estimating. Home school will give Zoey the values that will carry her through her life. I think I am going to research home school more. I seem to be talking myself into it! No matter what God leads me to do for Zoey, I know he has called me to be a Godly parent. I will take resposibility for her getting the education she deserves! This is the end of my homeschool blog. Any thoughts on this topic are welcome!
